Incorporated in 1996 as Bering Straits
Environmental Systems and Construction Company, the company was established
to perform construction, environmental, and a broad range of services
for both government and private enterprise clients. In 2001, the company
formally changed its name to Inuit Services, Inc. (ISI), to further
emphasize our diversity and intent to expand our base of business beyond
construction and environmental work. With a growing market for
services providers both in Alaska and in the continental United States,
the novation was a logical business progression to market and perform
in that arena. The corporate headquarters is located in Nome, Alaska
with operations and marketing based at our Anchorage, Alaska location.
The parent corporation, Bering
Straits Native Corporation (BSNC), is an Alaska Native Corporation
(ANC) created by the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971 (ANCSA).
BSNC began developing various subsidiaries, both for profit and non-profit,
to increase the value of the corporation and create equity for it’s
shareholders. With 30 years of corporate experience, BSNC’s developmental
efforts have taken them to their existing strong and profitable status.
ISI has been certified by the U. S. Small Business Administration as
both a Small Disadvantaged Business under their 8(a) Program and also
as a HubZone Small Business Concern. These certifications entitles ISI
to pursue small business only set-aside funds from the Department of
Defense and other government agencies. This advantage not only allows
ISI to secure a niche in performing government project work but also
providing an opportunity to firms unable to compete in the set-aside
program to team with ISI. The bonding capacity of ISI also allows an
advantage in competing on government project work. Single capacity is
$5 million with and aggregate amount of $15 million.
ISI maintains the appropriate NAICS code
for construction, environmental, and government oriented services. In
addition, as an Alaska Native Corporation owned subsidiary, ISI is not
restricted by the U. S. Small Business Administration's size limitations
associated with the NAICS codes providing ISI with another marketing
edge over its competitors.
ISI has been committed to expanding our base of business to include
government services, environmental, and construction contracting both
in and outside of Alaska. To market and provide those services,
ISI has a complement of professional staff holding proven backgrounds
and success in those fields. We are also able to commit
other resources within BSNC’s family of companies, when necessary, to
further ensure our success of marketing and subsequent performance in
this expansion effort.
ISI’s experience is diverse both in type of work completed and in logistical
support necessary for contract performance in both local and remote
applications. Our efforts have been quite successful in all situations,
exceeding customer requirements under those typically harsh conditions
found in the Arctic regions of Alaska and other extreme locations. Our
understanding of detailed planning and execution of contracts requiring
complex and difficult mobilization and performance has provided us with
a strong and favorable reputation from clients as a full service provider.
Our staff have planned and managed contracts for services and construction
at many locations throughout the world. This experience base of ISI
staff is an addition to performance provided at various defense and
government installations throughout the continental United States.
